Simulating two-phase debris flows in HEC-RAS at Hummingbird Creek, British Columbia, Canada

چکیده
Debris flows are typically modelled as a single homogeneous surge due to lack of data support more complex model development and time funding for the practitioner communities they aim support. Coarse debris characterized by coarse front, followed muddy slurry, that is then hyperconcentrated flow phase with lesser sediment concentrations. Presented herein modelling hazard assessment Hummingbird Creek, British Columbia, Canada. Model calibration best matched observed deposit when front were separately in two phases allowing separate rheologies be used tail flow, deposition between phases. Further research needed understand simulation two-phase may most representative, particularly no available.

Evidence for catastrophic volcanic debris flows in Pemberton Valley, British Columbia
The Mount Meager volcanic complex in southern British Columbia is snow and ice covered and has steep glaciated and unstable slopes of hydrothermally altered volcanic deposits. Three large-volume (>108 m3) volcanic debris flow deposits derived from the Mount Meager volcanic complex have been identified. The volcanic debris flows travelled at least 30 km downstream from the volcanic complex and i...
متن کاملTectonically Altered Coal Rank, Boulder Creek Formation, Northeastern British Columbia
Fieldwork during the 1988 season involved investigation of the thermal affects of tectonic movement on vitrinite reflectance near the Quintette Coal Limited mining operation in northeastern British Columbia. Two samples, collected in 1987, from the same seam on either side of a fault, suggested a significant rank increase associated with the stmctwe. These sites were revisited and sampled toget...
متن کاملCryptococcus gattii Dispersal Mechanisms, British Columbia, Canada
Recent Cryptococcus gattii infections in humans and animals without travel history to Vancouver Island, as well as environmental isolations of the organism in other areas of the Pacific Northwest, led to an investigation of potential dispersal mechanisms. Longitudinal analysis of C. gattii presence in trees and soil showed patterns of permanent, intermittent, and transient colonization, reflect...
متن کاملBody mass variation in Marbled Murrelets in British Columbia, Canada
Body mass was measured in Marbled Murrelets Brachyramphus marmoratus from May to August, 1994–1998 at Desolation Sound, and during June and July 1997 at Mussel Inlet, British Columbia, Canada, to assess seasonal, sexual, site and intra-annual variation. Birds were captured by mist-net, and by night-lighting, and were sexed using molecular techniques. The breeding status of females (gravid or no...
